I am researching my Great Grandfather, Robert Philip Howell. He was born in Fork Township, Wayne County and after the war moved to Goldsboro with his wife in 1868. According to a memoir written by one of his daughters, they “bought a large corner lot on the south side of West Centre and Spruce Streets, and in 1877 built his house where he and mother reared their family of eight children.” She describes a town with “the railroad in the middle of the town and in front of our house.” Can anyone tell me if those streets still exist in Goldsboro and whether there is a house on that corner? Also, what would Fork Township be today?
