For 6 years I've been studying them, their neighbors (according to land deeds), and the families joined by marriage to them.

I'm finding the same identical full names in the 1788 Wayne Co. census index and also in deeds I've come across.
Can you tell me if there was in fact a connection between these two counties during the late 1700s and into the early 1800s? Was it land grants? Did these people migrate back and forth? Was it a Quakerism connection? I would be thrilled to read any historical information you know of, that possibly connects these two counties.

We have three here in UK, one in Queensland, Australia and the one in North Carolina over the River Neuse on highway NC 111. Can anyone help me with details of how this bridge got it's name. Is there any historical background that would help me understand how a bridge in USA came to known by an old Anglo-Saxon place name in England?Any help will be most appreciated. Subject: Garland Genealogy in Wayne Co, NC

My names is Bobby M Edwards, President Emeritus of the Garland Family Research Association (GFRA) that was begun in 1926 to capture all data possible on families with the surname Garland(and associated families). We are incorporated in the State of NC and our database now contains 132, 000 names; 48, 000 marriages and 75 0000 sets of notes. We have a DNA Project and have established that seven Garland males who were in East TN and Western NC have lineage back to a Peter Garland of Isle of Wight Co, VA and his second spouse, an unknown Grace. He left a Will which named his children the amount of land (and where) he left each.

At the current moment we are concentrating on his son, John Garland, Sr who married 1st Mary Joyner and 2nd a Martha, and his son, John Garland, Jr, both of whom lived progressively thru Greene County and then Wayne County. NC John Garland, Jr married 1st Mary Innes, daughter of Colonel James Innes and 2nd to Elizabeth White, daughter of Robert and Elinor Hope White. After the death of John Garland, Jr in 1806, she married Drury J Aldridge.

John Garland, Jr and Elizabeth White had children, Kinchen Garland; Sarah W Garland; Rufus King Garland; Elizabeth John Garland; Elinor Garland and John Garland, all except the last, John Garland, married and had families.

John Garland, Jr had a half-brother, Joseph Garland, born ca 1705, Isle of Wight Co, NC, an died after 1771 in Greene Co, NC. Land transactions whether for Isle of Wight Co, VA , Greene Co, NC and Wayne Co, NC , by have the same descriptive locations. We have purchased all the volumes of genealogy for Isle of Wight Co, VA and numerous CD records from the US Genealogical Publishing Company and have exhausted these kind of sources. We are appealing to a number of known and respected websites for any assistance, or, clues, that might be of assistance to us

I am secretary for the French Thomas the Hugenot Uzzell clan. We recently held our nineteenth known reunion and a question was raised concerning Thomas Uzzell. It has always been said in the family history that he served in the Revolutionary War, however we cannot find any documentation that he, or any Uzzell/Uzzle/Uzle/Oisel/Yousell, etc. from our lineage served in that war. Can you point me in a good direction?

I am researching my Great Grandfather, Robert Philip Howell. He was born in Fork Township, Wayne County and after the war moved to Goldsboro with his wife in 1868. According to a memoir written by one of his daughters, they “bought a large corner lot on the south side of West Centre and Spruce Streets, and in 1877 built his house where he and mother reared their family of eight children.” She describes a town with “the railroad in the middle of the town and in front of our house.” Can anyone tell me if those streets still exist in Goldsboro and whether there is a house on that corner? Also, what would Fork Township be today?
